Finally, a Revolution Pathfinder…this was in a bit of a sorry state as its commute takes in the worst of what West Lothian has to offer. It needed a new Raleigh Bicycles rear wheel with Sturmey-Archer (SunRace) 7 speed freewheel, a replacement KMC Chain USA 7 speed chain, new Raleigh Bicycles brake pads front and rear and a Fibrax Limited rear gear cable to ensure those gear changes are accurate and consistent.
Read moreNow we have a super-stealthy Canyon…which had come off second best to some sort of the impact to its rear derailleur. Hanger adjusted, rear derailleur replaced (lovely, lovely Ultegra kit…even the packaging looks like it contains jewellery), a new 11 speed KMC Chain USA Extra Light chain and a service and it was returned to its owner running smoothly once more.

Read moreNext up, a cracking Specialized Bicycles Allez Sport. An Interim Service, a drivetrain clean, the headset stripped and re-lubed and both brake calipers cleaned and lubed. The bike successfully completed the Tour de Lauder last weekend (well done to its rider…the conditions sounded challenging to say the least), although it did suffer two broken spokes so will need more work in the coming week.

First up we have a Be-One Spirit which was in for its Annual Service. Like a lot of other bikes with disc brakes, this one needed replacement front pads as well as the existing items had been coated in contaminants (undoubtedly picked up from the road where oil etc gets thrown up).
Read moreFinally, a Trek Bicycle Lexa. Its poor owner believes she is completely incompatible with this bike, but I think she’s just been unlucky. The bike spends its time between here and UAE, so is at the mercy of baggage handlers when being transported. No matter how well packaged bikes are, accidents can happen. And so it came to pass that the front wheel would not allow itself to be extricated from its dropouts. A bit of brute force and ignorance (mine) got it free, and it quickly became apparent that the non-drive side dropout had been damaged…essentially it had been squashed, thus trapping the hub locknut. SRAM road Apex groupset with FSA Gossamer crankset and SRAM road Avid BB5 mechanical disc brakes, this is one sorted machine. An Interim Service, and a decontaminated pads and rotor and it was back with its owner (and now up for sale!)

If you use your bike on a regular basis, the Annual Service is a great way of keeping your bike running in tip-top condition throughout the year. Perfect for those riders who don’t ride everyday, but probably ride a couple of times a week. This Giant flew through its service with no advisories!
